Lucy Gordon

The actress Lucy Gordan has been found dead in the Paris apartment that she shared with her boyfriend, in a death that the police are describing as a likely suicide. Morgan, who was 28--she would have been 29 tomorrow--was English-born and made her film debut in 2001's Perfume, an American movie about the entertainment industry (not to be confused with the more recent Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, director Tom Tykwer's film based on the Patrick Suskind novel). She went on to roles in Serendipity (2001), The Four Feathers (2002), and Spider-Man 3 (2007). She also appeared in Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, John Krasinski's forthcoming adaptation of the book by David Foster Wallace.

Gordan was regarded as a star on the rise, particularly in France, where she appeared in the film Russian Dolls with Audrey Tautou and had two features due for release: Cineman with Marisa Berenson and a biopoc Serge Gainsbourg, in which she played the legendary '60s beauty (and mother of Charlotte Gainsbourg), Jane Birkin. Footage from Serge Gainsbourg (vie héroique) was shown this week at the Cannes Fim festival. The makers of that film have released a statement saying that the movie "owes a lot to the generosity, gentleness and immense talent of Lucy Gordon."
